A day of excitement, culture, kai and connection awaits…
Once we depart the Port of Tauranga and pass through the City, we will be bound for Rotorua which will be approx a 1.5hr drive. During this time you can enjoy an array of our (all inclusive) snacks and cakes, relax with a water or soft drink while you sit back and take in the beautiful scenic views, of which there will be many.
The Bay of Plenty region we are travelling through today is well known for its significant horticultural, forestry and tourism industries which are well established in the region. We will be passing through a lot of farmland as we continue our journey to Rotorua.
Once we have arrived in Rotorua, our day is spent at Te Puia, Rotorua’s world-class guided experience and cultural performance centre. You will experience a leading cultural performance in a beautifully carved meeting house, Te Aronui a Rua. It will include a Pōhiri (Traditional Māori Welcome), Waiata (Song), Mōteatea (traditional chant), Poi and Haka.
You come face to face with the biggest, naturally active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere Pōhutu Geyser, and enjoy the up-close experience with the New Zealand Kiwi, in the brand-new Kiwi Conservation Centre. Be mesmerised by exploding mud pools all throughout the valley and gaze at beautifully crafted Māori-made artwork and sculptures visible throughout Te Puia.
If time permits, lunch (not included) is available at Pātaka Kai Restaurant. A Hāngī Lunch Buffet, each dish has a twist of authentic Māori cuisine then crafted with locally sourced and freshly prepared ingredients by award-winning chefs. From Steamed Puddings to Kai Moana (Seafood), Manuka Smoked Ham, Hāngī Chicken, Pātaka Kai has something to tempt all taste buds with tantalizing dishes.
On our journey back to your ship, you can sit back and enjoy the memories you made today while you were exploring “our backyard”.
We will have you back at your ship at the Port of Tauranga well prior to your sailing time.
